Finnair has been named Best International Airline – Off-Line Carrier for the second successive year in the prestigious AFTA National Travel Industry Awards.
These annual awards acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of individuals and product within the Australian travel and tourism industry over the past 12 months.
Nominations come from across the industry with winners selected by a judging panel of travel specialists appointed by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA).
Finnair Country Sales Manager – Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia, Geoff Stone, accepted this second award for the acclaimed airline at a glittering dinner in Sydney on Saturday night (19 July).
“We are delighted to be once again recognised by our industry partners and thank them greatly for their vote of confidence in Finnair and the wonderful support they have given to us over many years,” Mr Stone said.
“I wish to thank my passionate and dedicated team for the great service they provide to the industry and for their commitment in promoting and selling Finnair in our market.”
Mr Stone also acknowledged the ongoing support of Airline Marketing Australia, which represents Finnair in this market.
“This award is especially exciting for everyone involved with Finnair as it is right on the back of being named the Best Airline in Northern Europe for the 5th successive year at the Skytrax awards,” Mr Stone said.
Whilst celebrating the award, Mr Stone also reflected on the very difficult time being experienced by Finnair’s oneworld partner, Malaysia Airlines, and said the thoughts of everyone were with those who had been impacted by the immense tragedies experienced by the airline this year.
Finnair is specialised in fast connections between Europe and Asia via Helsinki. The airline carries more than eight million passengers annually. From Australia, Finnair and oneworld airline partners connect via 13 cities in Asia to over 60 destinations in Europe. The airline, a pioneer in sustainable flying, operates a young, modern fleet and was the first airline named to the Leadership Index of the worldwide Carbon Disclosure Project. The only Nordic carrier with a 4-star Skytrax ranking, Finnair has also won the World Airline Award for Best Airline Northern Europe for the past five years running. Finnair is a member of the oneworld alliance.
