Sydney, 18 October 2018: Step aside Capri, the new Italian island on everyone’s lips for 2019 is Ischia. Located in the Bay of Naples, Ischia is quickly garnering a reputation as Italy’s new wellness destination.
Characterised by lush vegetation, Ischia is also known as the Green Island with its huge parks, beautiful beaches, lush landscapes and breath-taking sunsets. The volcanic island is also home to over 100 thermal springs making it the ideal wellness destination with various thermal parks offering cleansing mud and thermal therapies.
What to do:
A walk around the small yet pretty town of Lacco Ameno will uncover the famous “Fungo” a tuff rock in the shape of a mushroom, the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Sanctuary of Santa Restituta on the main street.
- Sample the twenty different types of thermal pools with temperatures ranging from 16 to 40 degrees at Giardini Poseidon - the largest thermal park in Europe.
- Improve circulation with a meditative walk through the two channels of the Japanese Labyrinth Bath at Negombo Thermal Gardens.
- Enjoy a concert at La Mortella Gardens - a unique sub-tropical and Mediterranean garden, shaped by the English composer Sir William Walton and his wife, Lady Susan.
- Take a dip at Maronti beach, the longest beach on the island (almost 3 km). Here you will find a stretch of free beach, lidos and small restaurants or, with a taxi boat ride reach the quaint fishing village of Sant’Angelo.
Where to stay:
Garden & Villas Resort is in the heart of Ischia. The resort covers an area of 3-hectares that surrounds the 9 villas housing the guest rooms. The main feature of the hotel is the garden characterised by traditional dry-stone walls, aromatic plants, olive trees, carob trees, strawberry trees and a variety of fruit trees.
The resort follows a zero-mile food philosophy which translates into a menu of typical dishes from Ischia that are prepared with honest local ingredients from the land and sea – most of which from the resort’s own garden.
Garden & Villas Resort offers a Long Stay Package including overnight accommodation & breakfast, dinner at “Il Corbezzolo” restaurant with pool views (drinks excluded) and three 50-minute massages per person. Rates start at €260.00* per room for two people.
