The Metropolitan Bangkok launches nine new leisure packages
When the Metropolitan Bangkok opened in 2003 it reinvented the contemporary city hotel experience. They have since acquired a global reputation for fast-track access to all that’s happening in the Asian capital. A large part of this energy exists under the hotel’s roof; they’ve held sell-out events each New Year’s Eve and many a party in between. There’s the members-only Met Bar for late-night Martinis, Cy’an’s gastronomic modern Mediterranean cuisine, and COMO Shambhala Urban Escape, which is the hotel’s fitness club, spa and Yoga studio.
The hotel has launched nine new packages to immerse guests in the Met lifestyle at an even deeper level. Suitable for both the short break market and international traveller, each package is focused on a unique experience that’s matched to a particular sensibility, from fashion to health to getting under the skin of Thailand’s ancient capital. Value-for-money is built into each offer, and might include decadent gift items or access to places which are otherwise generally off limits. Their launch follows the success of 10 similar packages inaugurated in 2007 by the Metropolitan London, sister to the Bangkok Met.
To complement the concepts, the leading British illustrative designer, David Newton, has created a series of images to feature on the website.
The nine new packages for the Metropolitan Bangkok are based on two sharing (rates for single travellers are also available). Prices are subject to tax and service charge. Unless specified, accommodation is in a Metropolitan Room.
Bangkok in Style. This package offers the best of Bangkok concentrated into a perfectly tuned three-night stay. The experience begins with a private limousine at the airport, and in your room, a chilled bottle of Champagne. During your stay, a one-day city tour will give you a heady fix of the main historical sites, including the Grand Palace and Siam Niramit Thai Cultural Show (followed by dinner). Go deeper into the culture by seeing some Muai Thai Boxing; alternatively, take part in a hands-on Thai cookery class. And just to ensure you’re sartorially satisfied, we’ll arrange an appointment with one of the city’s best tailors. The package also includes dinner for two at Cy’an, a COMO Shambhala massage for two and daily breakfast.
Available from $1,350 per room for three nights.
Global Explorer. This package is the ideal stop-over for travellers on their way to explore Indochina’s gems, including Thailand’s beaches, Cambodia and Vietnam. Not only does it provide respite from a long-haul flight; it also ensures you get a taste of the region and a hit of Bangkok – a city not to be passed over. Based on a two-night stay, this value-for-money deal includes a one-day city tour, two complimentary Martinis, tickets to Muai Thai Boxing or a hands-on Thai cookery class. To fend off any jet lag, choose from a Thai or COMO Shambhala massage for two. The package also includes breakfast, which can be savoured at Cy’an or Glow.
Available from $880 per room for two nights.
COMO Shambhala Reviver. This package is designed for couples or friends looking for wellbeing and respite from the urban hubbub. The Metropolitan’s spa package repairs you from head to toe on a one-night stay that focuses on downtime at the hotel’s COMO Shambhala Urban Escape (with mentors like Donna Karan and international Yoga teacher Rodney Yee, expect one of the world’s best city spas). The package includes herbal tea and fresh fruit as well as a COMO Shambhala gift set in your room on arrival, a COMO Shambhala massage for two and participation in the daily complimentary Yoga/stretch class. Enjoy a greater sense of wellness with breakfast for two at Glow where superfoods fill the nutritionally rich menu.
Available from $530 per room for two nights.
Tote-to-Toe Shopping Experience. With its prime location just minutes from the city’s main shopping areas, the Metropolitan Bangkok is perfectly poised for a hit of retail therapy in one of Asia’s most dynamic capitals. This package includes the service of a personal driver for a five-hour shopping tour. Just name your favourite stores and our luxury air-conditioned car will take you there, meaning there’s no need to hunt for a taxi and carry your bags from shop to shop. Back at the hotel, revitalise those weary feet with a Reflexology treatment before retreating to the Met Bar for a post-shopping Martini. Available from $375 per room, per night.
‘Seduce me’ at the Met. This is a modern interpretation of the classic romance package. Upon arrival, a box of chocolates and an indulgent COMO Shambhala massage oil gift set are waiting in your room. Follow with some more serious pampering – specifically, a COMO Shambhala massage for two at the COMO Shambhala Urban Escape in the privacy of our couple’s massage suite. Round off with a candlelit dinner beside the pool at Cy’an, which is the hotel’s headline gourmet restaurant. We’ll include a bottle of wine, and in the morning, should you be in the mood for more indulgence, enjoy a Champagne breakfast delivered to your room. A fabulous gift to surprise him or her. Available from $560 per room, per night.
Ready for Business. At the Metropolitan we believe in stress-free business travel. That’s why Condé Nast Traveller magazine named us among the world’s top business hotels in 2007. Our two-night package offers the sleek and efficient tools this kind of traveller requires: roundtrip limousine transfers from the airport, complimentary broadband internet in your room and a good location close to Bangkok’s business district. And after a hard-day’s work, enjoy a relaxing Thai or COMO Shambhala massage for one hour, watch a complimentary in-room movie and spend your $30 credit voucher in the Met Bar, Cy’an or Glow restaurants. Available from $510 for two nights in a City Room, based on single occupancy.
Party Like a Rock Star – Sleep Like a Baby. Like the Metropolitan London, our Bangkok hotel has always been dear to the heart of the rock star elite. Get a taste of that lifestyle with this unique night-focused package. Kick-off the evening with a complimentary Martini in the exclusive members-only Met Bar. Our concierge will be happy to assist with planning the rest of the night, whether you stay with the Met’s party crowd or go out downtown. Complimentary smoothies and coffee will be delivered to your room in the morning, and you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast after an indulgent lie-in. Check-out is a late 2pm. To remember the party, take home an exclusive Met Bar gift. Available from $280 per room, per night.
Excess at the Met. For the ultimate extravagance, this package loads on the extras: chilled Champagne in your oversized suite on arrival, a personal butler on call, roundtrip limousine transfers from the airport, an indulgent COMO Shambhala massage for two, a deluxe city tour of Bangkok with a chauffeur driven limousine and professional guide, a seven-course dinner served in a private area of Cy’an and a bottle of premium spirit for personal use in the Met Bar during your stay. You’ll get the best tables, and your guest won’t forget it. Think of it as the Bangkok package that dares you to blow that bonus. Available from $1,360 for two nights in an Executive Suite.
Good Morning Bangkok. This package – a simple, well-priced overnight stay inclusive of breakfast – is aimed at individuals who want complete flexibility during their visit. Available at US$185 per room, per night.

EDITOR’S NOTE
Understanding Metropolitan: COMO Hotels and Resorts currently owns and operates two Metropolitan hotels, in London and Bangkok. They share dynamic elements: a contemporary east-west aesthetic, youthful staff, a COMO Shambhala Urban Escape and a lively members’ bar. Both hotels have restaurants regarded as gourmet destinations in their own right. They are city hotels that stand at the centre of the action – both physically and in the city’s psyche. They are places where things happen, attracting creative travellers who seek both the high-octane lifestyle as well as the peace and calm that comes with clean-lined modern design. This unique potential to experience two different worlds – the energy of a vibrant metropolis, and serene escapism within the hotel’s calming confines – is what defines the Metropolitan life.
Understanding COMO Hotels and Resorts: COMO Hotels and Resorts’ first property opened in 1991 – the Halkin in London’s Belgravia. The winning combination of smooth and accurate service, healthy Michelin-starred food and contemporary, understated style has since led to the creation of further properties, each different from the other while respecting COMO’s core commitments – to indulge every guest’s sense of respite, be it on a private island or a city hotel in the world’s most dynamic capitals. Currently the COMO portfolio consists of two properties in London: the Halkin and Metropolitan, London. The resort product launched in 1998 with Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos. In 2002, Cocoa Island in the Maldives was born, followed in 2003 by the Metropolitan, Bangkok. In early 2004, COMO Hotels and Resorts assumed management of Begawan Giri Estate in Bali. That same year saw the opening of Uma Paro, Bhutan, and Uma Ubud, Bali. In 2005, Begawan Giri was relaunched with substantial new facilities as a top-end residential wellness retreat called COMO Shambhala Estate at Begawan Giri.
