The Metropolitan Launches Afternoon De-Light
![]()
Afternoon tea is a much celebrated, quintessentially British occasion and ever popular in London’s five star hotels. The Met has never offered afternoon tea before as it is more widely associated with the traditional hotels like The Dorchester, Claridge’s and The Ritz.
However, we have created a modern interpretation called ‘Afternoon De-Light’ that will be available to the public from Thursday 31st July 2008.
The menu includes all of the items that you would expect to see on an afternoon tea menu (e.g. scones, cakes, and pastries) but are ‘healthful’ alternatives. For example, the scones are made with rice flour, potato flour and a small amount of plain flour, reducing the amount of gluten. The no-bread sandwiches pots are perfect for wheat-intolerant guests as they include all the fillings but not the bread!
The beverages also have a clever twist. Guests can choose a tea infusion or have them turned into delicious chilled, martini’s. Our new ‘Eco-Tini’s are also sure to be very popular as all items have been sourced from the Greater London region (the gooseberry’s are from our Met Bar Manager’s garden no less!)
The menu will be available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 3pm-6pm with a view to extending this to seven days once the reservations have picked up.
