27 August 2014: Small Luxury Hotels of the World™ (SLH) has announced its newest Australian member property is Berkeley River Lodge in Western Australia.


Berkeley River Lodge is situated at the mouth of the Berkeley River, Kimberley, 150 kilometres north-west of Wyndham and, as there are no roads, is reachable only by air or sea.


Berkeley River Lodge is the seventh Australian SLH member – joining Kim’s Beach Hideaway, Bloomfield Lodge, Thorngrove Manor Hotel, Injidup Spa Retreat, Smiths Beach Resort and Woodbridge on the Derwent in this impressive portfolio of properties.


Twenty stunning Berkeley River Villas are perched on a 65-metre high dune and provide amazing 180-degree panoramic Timor Sea and Berkeley River views. The 25 square metre bedroom features King size beds, timber flooring, air conditioning, 15 square metre open to air bathroom with shower, dual vanities and free standing oversize bathtub. Villa size is 40 square metres.


Large, floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a deck with seating and a daybed from which to take in the views. Guests can relax in the moonlight in an open-air bath and feel truly at one with nature.


One can discover the ancient, 350 million-year-old gorges along the river and enjoy a spot of fishing with towering dark orange cliffs as a backdrop. There are guided walks and four-wheel-drive tours and a rich and diverse eco system including mangroves, saltwater crocodiles, sea turtles and sharks.


Guests can take a helicopter flight to King George Sound and Mitchell Falls, and visit ancient sites with indigenous rock art. Returning to Berkeley River Lodge there is time for a swim in the 20-metre lap pool and relaxing on the deck before dinner.The Dunes Restaurant offers a casual yet decadent dining experience. Breakfast is cooked to order, and a degustation lunch and dinner menus are teamed with fine Australian wines.
